Dals Rostock

Brunnsvägen runs through the whole of Dals Rostock and all the way north you will find Brunnsparken. Nowadays it is a park run by the association, Hembygdsföreningen, with herb garden, exhibitions, and in summer the Museum and Café Gula Villan are also open. Adjoining the park are several places of interest: Kerstin Ljungkvist’s Studio, Stockrosen Antiques, Ellen Ljungqvist Studio, Vintage by Inez and on the other side of the road you will find Tant Vanja’s Textile Museum.

A few roads down from Brunnsparken you will find Kroppefjäll IF, where there is a football pitch and training is organised here for all ages. Among the trees you will also glimpse JOAB, which produces parts for lorry construction. Below JOAB spread agricultural fields.

Located some kilometres away are Ekholmen Café and Farm shop, they have eco-marked beef, a royal room to visit and in summer there is sometimes a café. A little further away you will find Solgläantan’s magical garden where in a cosy barn, concerts are arranged in summertime.

Further south along Brunnsvägen lies Bertil’s garden, which blooms from early spring and well into autumn. On a side road a little further south the shop, Sommaraffären, opens in season and has everything from retro objects to antique bargains. A few houses away is Rostock Ceramics where you will find beautiful handicrafts in both clay and wool. In between is the local store Byxfickans Livs, open every day selling all basic supplies and various bits and pieces. The shop collaborates with many local producers so local produce is of course found on the shelves.

A stone’s throw away is the little station house, which is an exact copy of the original station but on a 1:2 scale. It is supported by an association and the key and access is via Byxfickan store.

If you cross the railway from there you will arrive at Karolinen. This is a meeting place where lots of activities for young and old are arranged One street up is Karoliner school, which has years F6-6 and a lovely schoolyard in wooded surroundings.

Furthest south along Brunnsvägen lies Sandlycke farm. Here cultivation is small-scale and sustainable, in summer they also arrange exhibitions, workshops and cultural events in the barn. In season the vegetable shop, where you can buy fresh vegetables self-service, is open.

If you continue up towards the nature area in the south part of the community, you will find Kroppefjällsparken set in Mörttjärns Nature Reserve. There is a pre-school here with a large playground surrounded by nature. Many of the houses in the park were built at the beginning of the 1900s when a sanatorium was established here. Today there is a B&B, a venue for different activities and year-round private housing, plus a variety of events taking place. The park also accommodates many small businesses and a vetrinarian.

A stone’s throw from the park lies the OK cabin with outdoor gym and cycle track. Hiking trails, training tracks and illuminated paths in beautiful countryside start from here. In the winter there are also ski tracks that run from the OK cabin to Mörttjärn’s furthest point.

In addition, there are several agricultural, forestry, and not least, artisanal businesses. Dals Rostock is a picturesque community with a well-preserved history which is characterised by a thriving business life as well as a strong and creative entrepreneurial spirit.

Historia

Dals Rostock has been a place that people have travelled to for the sake of their health for more than a hundred years. They travelled from afar to drink the healing water from Hälsobrunnen well in Brunnsparken. The well remains today. The place also hosts an extensive cultivation of medicinal herbs. In 1911 Kroppefjäll Sanitorium was opened near Mörttjärn. Those with lung diseases came to try to get well from within, as for many years there was no medicine to treat tuberculosis. The sanitorium’s operation ceased in 1960, but many of the buildings remain in the park which is today called Kroppefjällsparken. Dals Rostock throughout its history has also been home to a strong entrepreneurial spirit, which is characterised by many small businesses and thriving associations. This is something that continues to keep the place alive and unique today.
